Stages of a Consent Order
- Disclosure & Negotiations – Parties will exchange financial disclosure with a view to using that information to negotiate a settlement between them. Negotiations can take place between the parties directly, be facilitated by Solicitors or mediators or a combination.
- Agreement – After negotiations take place, the parties will resolve financial matters by reaching an agreement regarding all aspects of their finances including property, the division of savings and investments and sharing of pensions.
- Draft Consent Order – The agreement that has been reached will be drafted into a Consent Order with the terms agreed between the parties. This will then be sent to the court for a Judge to consider.
- Sealed Consent Order – Once approved and sealed by the court, the Consent Order becomes legally binding and the parties must adhere to the agreed terms.
